Book Review: Callen by Kemmie Michaels

CALLENCALLEN by Kemmie Michaels
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

** I received a complimentary copy from the author in exchange for an honest review. **

This series focuses on a set of friends: Ledger, Mason, Callen, and Shelby. This book was (obviously) Callen’s story. Callen’s love was murdered and he is focused on revenge. Quinn is a prison psychologist with an intuition on people.

I haven’t read the other two books in this series yet so I am not sure how that impacts what I thought of Callen. However, judging from the fact that I gave the book 5 stars, it was awesome as a standalone. It took me until about 20% to become invested in the book but once I became invested, there was no stopping me from finishing it. I can’t wait until I have time in my schedule to read the first two books in the series. I am also anticipating the fourth book, Shelby. The ending to Callen has me ready for Shelby’s story.

Even though this is a book in a series, I felt that I had a good understanding of the characters and their background through conversations and memories included in the book. I really felt the pain Callen felt in certain situations in the book. At the beginning of the book, I thought I was going to absolutely hate Callen’s character, but in the end, he is one of my favorites.
