When I took the vows for better or worse, I meant them. Then I started to wonder if there was a limit as to how much worse I was supposed to endure. Am I supposed to stay if worse means that me and my daughter are in danger? What if the worse was because of a mental illness? When is enough simply too much?

This is a different kind of love story. Read Nina’s journals for a tale of hope, strength of spirit, and unconditional love.

Excerpt:

I remember when I met Shane.  He was several years younger than I was, but he seemed much more together, and so much more mature than my almost ex-husband.  Here was a man who had a career.  Shane had been in the same field for ten years, employed by the same company that entire time.  He owned his home and drove a nice new truck.  As a neighbor, I had watched him maintain his lawn, service his vehicle, do all those things that men were supposed to do.  Even the interior of the residence was neat, despite having two really lazy roommates.
We dated for a while growing closer and closer.  Finally, he made some admissions that touched my cold, brittle heart…
Shane: No one knows me as well as you do.  No one has ever been allowed to get this close.
It was such an honor, and soon I was so crazy in love that I knew...I knew nothing could tear us apart.  For a while, it seemed that we were destined to be together, forever.  He made me feel safe and loved.  Every moment spent together was incredibly special.  That’s why I vividly recall one night when we were alone in the house and Shane was walking around without a shirt on.  He loved showing off his muscular physique.  Honestly, I loved seeing it, loved touching his bare skin.  In that moment, he leaned his back against the counter and faced me.  Without thinking, I walked into his open arms, inhaled his scent to imprint it upon my soul, and kissed the broken heart tribal tattoo on his chest.
Shane: Are you trying to heal my broken heart?
Shaking my head, I responded.
me: Nope.  Just loving you.
Shane: Good.  It can’t be fixed.
He looked down and instead of wrapping me up in those muscular arms and pulling me closer to his washboard abs and ample pecs, he stiffened and stood straight.
Shane: Sometimes, I think you are only attracted to me because you want to fix me.
His demeanor had me tensing up.  Somehow, I knew what I said next was going to be really important.  Shaking my head, I found the words I sought.
me: Baby, until I got to know you, I didn’t even know you were broken.
That softened him.  My words worked.  They were magic.  He admired my ability to communicate, to speak eloquently, and to make an impact through simple speech.  Words did not come easily for him.
He held me close.  Bending his head, his chin in my hair, he finally spoke what was clearly bothering him.
Shane: You make me want to be a better man, but I don’t want to change.  What are we going to do about that?
With my chin on his chest, staring up into his pained eyes, I told him the truth.  There was only one way I knew to make this work.
me: I’m going to love you through it.  No matter what, I promise I’ll love you the best I can with all that I am.
I meant it, too.
Must be he liked my response because within seconds, his lips closed the distance to mine.  That kiss.  That love.
That was five years ago.
Life has changed, much different from what I knew...all because I said, ‘I do.’

Book Review: Down to You by Addison Kline

Title: Down to You
Author: Addison Kline
Genre: Romance

Synopsis:

Holly Edgemont used to love celebrating Christmas, that is, until her whole world was turned upside down by an unexpected divorce from her college sweetheart Brant. This year, not only is she divorced, but the kids are going out of state with her ex Brant, leaving her utterly alone. Holly's party-girl friend Sloane tries to break her out of her frump by dragging her along to holiday parties where Holly meets cute and available Chris. But when Holly realizes that she still has feelings for Brant, she has a decision to make: Learn to trust her long time love who broke her heart, or move on for good.

Brant Edgemont is a divorced father of three, and hopelessly in love with his ex-wife, Holly. He made the biggest mistake of his life walking out two years ago. Despite his pleas to reconnect, Holly still resists him. Is it too late to rekindle their love? Or will Holly move on for good, leaving Brant himself heartbroken and alone?

Down To You is not just a romantic love story. It is a story of familial love, friendship, betrayal, redemption, and the magic that can happen at Christmas time when friends and family join together.

Where to Purchase Down to You:

My Review:

** I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. **

I really enjoyed this story even though it took me a couple of chapters to get interested. I was scared at first that I was going to hate it but I was pleasantly surprised as the story moved along.

We are introduced to the female head character who was recently divorced from her husband after he did something horrible to the family. She was sending her kids away with her ex for the holidays and was sad at the thought of being alone. However, both are still in love with the other. Through the rest of the book, we learn what Brant did that ended the marriage. And will Holly and Brant rekindle their romance or finally be able to move on from each other?

** "There is no such thing as a fairy tale life." **

A very important lesson in life. There is no fairy tale life. And the sooner Holly and Brant realize it, maybe the sooner they can make the decision of where their lives and relationship is going.

** "Romance is not a constant byproduct of love. Real love is standing by one another and supporting each other through the good times and the bad. We all make mistakes, but the important thing is that we learn from them and move onto a more positive path." **

Down to You is a heartwarming story that focuses on understanding and forgiveness.

Excerpt:

“Fine. Bring me the damn suit,” I grumble begrudgingly.

“You’re the best! You know that?” Kara kisses me chastely. Her father is still there after all.

Bill laughs once Kara bolts up the stairs.

“Laugh now. Next thing you know she’ll make you be my elf!” I threaten good naturedly.

“I’d love to see that,” he says in between chuckles.

“Ah crap!” I pull my hands through my hair, seriously wanting to throw a child-sized temper tantrum at this turn of events.

“Think of it this way, son. It will be good practice for when you have kids. And you’re making those girls’ night.”

“Yeah… alright. I guess I can try to look on the bright side of things,” I concede. The last thing I need is for my soon to be father-in-law to think I’m a big baby.

Kara returns twenty minutes later with a giant red bag. I drag it into the bathroom and take my time changing. Part of me hopes that if I take too long the girls will fall asleep or something. Stranger things have happened.

“It’s Christmas Eve, Jacob. The girls won’t want to fall asleep regardless, so don’t think you can get out of this,” Kara calls through door.

How the hell does she do that? It’s worse than the eyes in the back of her head.

“I’ll be out in a minute,” I yell through the door.

After I velcro the giant pillow onto my belly, I turn to the side and stick my stomach out further, poking at my now enlarged gut. I roll my abdominal muscles making the pillow bounce and ripple. Chuckling at my nonsense, I step into the red, velvet pants. I pull the black suspenders over my shoulder and do a little jig watching as my stomach bounces around.

Apparently this suit sucks the seriousness out of you. Maybe it’s a magic suit…

I stop my musings and proceed to put the jacket on and button it up.

I look damn good in red. Even with a giant stomach.

Next comes the wig and beard, followed by the hat. Now I have absolutely no reason to walk out of this bathroom. Damn.

Opening the door, Kara is the first thing I see. Her face lights up and she graces me with a wide smile. She lifts her arm, and then she does the unthinkable when she snaps a picture with her cell phone.

“Lump of coal for you!” I shout and make like I’m going to attack her. When I lunge for her, she screeches and runs across the room.

Once I catch up with her, she reaches out and rubs red shit on my cheeks. “Really?” I ask not wanting to deal with this shit.

“You are so going to get lucky later,” she mumbles so only I can hear her.

“Damn straight. You owe me one creative session, Sunshine.”

“There is this new position I heard about that I’ve been curious to try.”

“It’s a good thing this suit is big, otherwise my sister would think Santa was a giant perv. What do you think you’re doing telling me that now?” I gripe, knowing my nieces can’t sit on my lap while I’m turned on.

“Sorry. I forget,” she says like that explains it all.

“You’re lucky I love you.” I kiss her forehead and start towards the stairs. “Let’s get this over with.”

Cover Reveal (+ Giveaway): His Muse by Kemmie Michaels

Synopsis:
On vacation in the tropical paradise of St. Lucia...

Martin and Abby never intended to meet anyone while they were away. Circumstance, however, pushes them together in spite of their expectations. With an entire vacation week with nothing to do but spend time together, Martin and Abby forge a connection unlike anything either had felt before. With Abby’s conservative nature and Martin’s refusal to be the player he had once been, the couple keeps themselves physically apart...until they can’t.

They collide into a friction that sparks a blazing need to stay together. Keeping the heat alive from opposite ends of the country, though, may prove too difficult. Distance and circumstance become very ugly words in this couple’s vocabulary.

I love a good love story. I reread the first kiss a few times before I read on...even in my own books. That moment gets me every time no matter how often I revisit that beautiful connection. I dive into every story to the point where I have so many fictional boyfriends that I can't keep track of them all.
In the world of reality, I have a loving and tolerant husband who smiles and rolls his eyes every time I tell him about my latest fictional love affair. I have two autistic pre-teen boys who keep me on my toes. I have a psychotic Golden Retriever (I was told those don't exist...) and a cat that rules our house. I used to be the queen. Our regal feline has usurped my throne and demoted me to Prime Minister.
I studied English/Journalism at Miami University in Ohio, have a Master's Degree in Secondary Education from the University of Dayton and I spent five years teaching even more personality-rich pre-teens. For some sick reason, I actually enjoyed teaching junior high. Now as a stay-at-home mom, I'm clinging to that status by throwing my hat in the author's ring and hoping I get to keep it there.

Excerpt (Subject to Editing)
I’m slowly coming to and dawn hasn’t quite made its arrival yet.  Slowly everything from the night before comes back to me.  His arm is around me and he’s cradling me to his chest.  The warmth is almost insufferable.  I turn my head and he’s dead asleep.  I’m suddenly overcome with panic and decide I have to get out of here.  I creep out of the hold of his stellar body and get off the bed with ease.  I don’t want to risk waking him so I just grab my dress and shoes and make my way out of his room and down the stairs.  I find my purse on the kitchen island and head for the door.
“Cassidy!”
I nearly scream I’m so startled.  I rush to the door, open it and tip toe thru it for it to slam shut.  I run full force down the hall in nothing but his t-shirt with my arms full of my dress, shoes and purse.  I fumble with my key and finally get into my room.  My door closes and I swear I hear another, “Cassidy!” booming down the hall.
“Shit, shit, shit.”  Why am I running from him?
I throw my dress and shoes to the floor and sink down the door.  My knees are pulled to my chest and I’m resting my head on them when I feel my door shake like a gorilla is pounding it.  Bang, bang, bang!  My entire body vibrates against the force of him hitting the door.
“Cassidy, I know you’re in there.  Please open up.”
I push myself up the door and sigh.  I don’t know what to say to him.  “Go away!”
“Cassidy Charles open this door.  You can’t run from me forever.”
“Yes I can!”  This is ridiculous.  We’re acting like twelve year olds.
“Don’t make me call hotel security!  You let me in or I’ll let myself in.”
He wouldn’t dare, would he?  I decide to face him.  I open the door yelling at him, “You wouldn’t dare!”
He’s on me instantly.  I don’t even have a moment to take in his appearance.  His arms are around my back and he lifts me off the floor.  He sets me on the kitchen island.
“Why did you leave?  You scared me.”  He’s holding my face in his hands.  “Cassidy, look at me.  You can’t deny the attraction between us.  It was there all those months ago and it’s still here.”
There is so much emotion surrounding my thoughts and feelings for him.  I was attracted to him like a fish to water the first time I saw him.  And then it all went to shit in one night.  I look in his eyes and they’re full of concern.
“I’m scared of what I feel when I’m around you.  You scare the hell out of me.”  He looks stricken and drops his hands from my face.  “Not afraid of you, afraid of this,” I wave my hand between us.  “I’ve never been so drawn to someone.  And you left me that horrible night without a word.  I didn’t know what to think.  And then you were arrested and I couldn’t process it.”
He pulls me to him and starts talking into my hair.  “Baby, I didn’t leave you that night.  I never wanted to leave you.  I came back with our coffee and I saw you with a cop.  He was holding you and I got the wrong impression.”
“Wait, what?!  Calvin, you thought I was with…”  I’m crying and laughing at the same time.  “Calvin is my brother.”  I push away from him just enough to look at him.
He’s wiping my tears and says, “I know, I found out a few days later when they were questioning me.”  He must feel me stiffen.  “Cassidy, the charges were dropped.  You know that right?”  I nod my answer and he embraces me again.  “I promise you I had nothing to do with what happened that night.”
“I spent months trying to hate you so I could get over you, but I couldn’t and I never even had you.”
“Baby, you had me, you have me still.  Last night was just confirmation Cassidy.”

Genre: Geek Romance

Blurb:

Not too long ago,
in a town that,
depending on your current location,
is either not super far
or actually quite close…

It is a time of chaotic hormones.
Two nerdy gents
home for winter break
have discovered a female gamer
at a midnight release.

During the break,
the gamer trio manages
to reveal the game’s secret boss,
a hidden enemy
with enough power to destroy
anything in its path.

Pursued by other gamers
who want to be the first
to beat this boss,
George and Katie race to level up,
and, in so doing, restore decency
and sexual activity to their personal galaxy…

Excerpt:

“These graphics suck,” George says and I look back at the screen. We’re standing in the middle of the Estate, colorful orbs quivering ahead of us. We each have to choose our starting advantage. Waterfalls shimmer in the distance and the sunlight streams over multicolored stones in the courtyard.
“Amateurs,” Lanyon concurs. “I mean, they couldn’t have five waterfalls?”
“Your ironic wit is mind blowing, but choose your damn orbs,” I tell them. I consider. Magic, defense, offense, stealth, and charisma. I always go for magic as a black mage, but I wonder if a druid needs something else. Screw it. I need charisma in real life, too.
“Charisma?” Lanyon asks. “No one ever picks charisma.”
“We’re a party of a thief, druid, and a bard. We’re screwed regardless.”
“You two underestimate the mighty power of my lute,” George argues.
“Did you start with charisma?” Lanyon asks.
“Hell, no. I have charisma in spades. I started with stealth.”
“Great. A stealthy bard,” I sigh.
“She’s right,” Lanyon concedes. “We’re screwed.”
However, it actually isn’t bad at all at first. We power through the Estate and make it to the Yobanaria Dale with no resurrections and all at level ten. I’m impressed. George hasn’t actually fought anything, but he has some pretty awe-inspiring charm mastery already. I think I might have a serious crush. He seals the deal when he buffs my hailstorm spell without even being asked.
“Can you guys watch El Thiefelo? My mom wants me to eat supper,” Lanyon says.
“Yeah, we’ve got it,” I tell him. “The first boss is in the elven ruins anyway, so we should grind a bit. I think he’s a twelve.”
George and I explore the Dale, taking out bats and Joba spores. It’s fairly quiet, except for when we combo with his charms and my spells and he yells out, “Eat lute, bitch,” but it’s nice. We work well, almost inherently understanding each other. I’ve never been able to play this effectively with anyone. I try not to think about his eyes. Stupid boys, being cute and stuff.
By the time Lanyon comes back, we’re all at level 12, although Lanyon leveled up just by standing by a door while we played. Still, we are ready to take on Balsa the Proud. As a black mage, it took me about nine seconds. Trees don’t like fire. However, druids don’t have the same level of black magic and all elemental magic is weakened by the need to draw from the elements nearby. Sadly, trees seem to avoid storing fire runes in their villages. I expect this to be a little more challenging. It might even take fifteen seconds.
“First boss. Also known as the freebie bitch to sucker the young folks into a false sense of security,” Lanyon announces as he runs into the center of Balsa’s lair. The cinema plays and then, in a moment of pure absurdity, El Thiefelo is squished as Balsa steps on him.
“Can someone revive me?” Lanyon whines.

About the Authors:

                                                                Sarah Daltry:

Sarah Daltry writes about the regular people who populate our lives. She's written works in various genres - romance, erotica, fantasy, horror. Genre isn't as important as telling a story about people and how their lives unfold. Sarah tends to focus on YA/NA characters but she's been known to shake it up. Most of her stories are about relationships - romantic, familial, friendly - because love and empathy are the foundation of life. It doesn't matter if the story is set in contemporary NY, historical Britain, or a fantasy world in the future - human beings are most interesting in the ways they interact with others. This is the principle behind all of Sarah's stories.

Sarah has spent most of her life in school, from her BA and MA in English and writing to teaching both at the high school and college level. She also loves studying art history and really anything because learning is fun.

When Sarah isn't writing, she tends to waste a lot of time checking Facebook for pictures of cats, shooting virtual zombies, and simply staring out the window.
She has written several books, most notably Bitter Fruits, an urban fantasy in the Eden’s Fall series, and the Flowering series, including Forget Me Not, Lily of the Valley, and Star of Bethlehem.

                                                                   Pete Clark:

Pete Clark likes writing, animals, potato chips, and cheese. Midnight Riders is his first published novel, although he can also proudly say he finally finished Helix Crashing, the fantasy novel he has been working on for over a decade. In addition, he has written Across the Barren Landscape, a collection of linked Western short stories. He also writes plays, both dramatic and comedic.
When he is not writing, Pete tends to ignore everyone around him and obsess over sports.
