Book Review: Man Hunt by Vanessa Vale

Man Hunt (On a Manhunt #1)Man Hunt by Vanessa Vale
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I love a good insta-love story on the shorter side of a book. And this one fit the bill. Bridget is the somewhat nerdy girl who loves numbers. Maverick is the CEO in town to figure out why his construction project isn’t going as planned. A spilled iced coffee later, Maverick finds out the girl who spilt her coffee on him is his employee. This is a kind of re-telling of 16 Candles, only older characters and a much more dirty “Jake”. Bridget accidentally emailed her answers to a survey from her best friend to her boss instead of to her friend. This kick started it all. Perfect amount of humor, lust/love, and misunderstanding. This was a great story and a good start for a new series. I love Bridget’s friend group (her sister and her best friend) as well as all of Maverick’s brothers. I can’t wait to read the next book.

Book Review: Keep This Promise by Corinne Michaels

Keep This Promise (Rose Canyon, #3)Keep This Promise by Corinne Michaels
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the third and final book in the Rose Canyon series. You do not need to read the first two to understand this one, but they’re both good so I recommend them anyway. There’s also a continuing storyline that connects all three but enough is explained in this one to understand it.

I was emotional during Spencer and Brielle’s story, had my heart broken and pieced back together during Emmett and Blakely’s story so I imagined I’d have much of the same during this one. However, this one took me on a completely different roller coaster ride.

This book begins a little before the last book ends. However, those added chapters lead up to the end of Book 2 and are told from Sophie’s POV. I loved Holden, Sophie, and Eden. Also, Mama James is one of my favorite characters in this book; I love her sass. As for the villain in this book? I knew something was a little “off” about them but couldn’t put my finger on it. But, then the reveal that they were the bad guy in the story… it solidified that my gut instinct was right.

There is a new series coming as a tie in to this one. I’m not sure if my heart is ready for that one yet… Only time will tell.

Book Review: Stroke of Midnight by Bella Lane

Stroke of Midnight: Halloween Party Series (AB Shared World)Stroke of Midnight: Halloween Party Series by Bella Lane
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I absolutely love short and sweet little reads. This one was both with a little bit of mystery and danger thrown in.

Roman and Jessi had a one night stand, which was never supposed to be a one night stand to Roman, years ago. He left quickly and never told Jessi why (but why didn’t anyone else explain it to her?), but now he’s back and ready to make things right. However, Jessi is in a tough spot and needs the help of the police. Enter the new police chief – Roman. He must now keep her safe, solve the mystery, and earn her trust back. It seems like a lot; can he achieve it all in this book?

Book Review: Promised Love by Vikki Jay

Promised LovePromised Love by Vikki Jay
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Lukas always had a mysterious vibe in the Teager Brothers’ books. You could easily tell when reading those that he had some secrets and I am so glad that Vikki waited until this book to unleash them all. Lukas definitely deserved his own book instead of just being “Zane’s best friend”.

Lukas and Autumn’s story started off unconventionally. As in an unconventional reasoning for an arranged marriage (it was refreshing for it to be a different reason than every other arranged marriage book I had read). They got married when Autumn was just eighteen and knew their marriage had an expiration date. It was so enjoyable watching these two as they dealt with their emotions and the fact they were falling in love with each other. Could Lukas move past his past to claim an incredible future?

I love the characters, as well as some of the side characters. I feel like Autumn has just always been here. I love this world so much! This is another amazing read!

Book Review: Sitting Pretty by Kameron Claire

Sitting PrettySitting Pretty by Kameron Claire
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

One thing I can always count on when reading a Kameron Claire book: it will be a great short read. I absolutely love reading her books because they are good for those times I can read but don’t have a lot of time in the sitting. I usually can finish one of her books in one short sitting, two max. There are always good well-developed characters and some insta-love. Lucas is a personal trainer at a lush gym. He also offered some “off the clock personal time” for some clients. Aila is a fashion youtuber and runs an online plus-size boutique. She is new in town and trying out the gyms in the area. Lucas has insta-lust as soon as he sees her. However, Aila is skeptical; she’s seen those curvy fetish men before. The two try to overcome what they see as obstacles in their could-be relationship. I love Aila! The confidence she has in herself is inspiring.

Book Review: High Stakes by Freya Barker

High Stakes (High Mountain Trackers Book 2)High Stakes by Freya Barker
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the second book in the High Mountain Trackers series. I personally liked this story a lot better than the first (and that’s saying something because I liked the first one a lot). There was just something about Nella and Fletch’s story that drew me in from the beginning and kept me entranced the entire book. I loved Nella’s knack for always getting herself into dangerous situations and needing Fletch to come save her. The added suspense of “Where is Pippa (Nella’s sister)?” and “Who is involved in this mystery?” were just icing on the cake. A good love story and a good mystery? This book checked off both boxes. I loved seeing the characters from Book 1 in this book and can’t wait for the rest of the Trackers to get their stories.

Book Review: Sins of the Orchid by Eva Winners

Sins of the OrchidSins of the Orchid by Eva Winners
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Eva Winners has become one of my favorite authors ever. I loved her Belles and Mobsters series and then I read this one which is independent of that series. That’s when I knew that no matter what Eva wrote, I’d read it. I don’t think she can write anything I don’t like.

I loved the way Eva wrote the book from the very beginning – when Amore first met Santi and his family. The progression through their relationship – first when she was just his brother’s best friend and he was her protector to both realizing they loved the other was perfection.

Then the twist… the reason Amore’s life changed when she was 13… it was mainly predictable. Especially if you’ve read enough of Eva’s books to get a feel for how her writings work. But, even though it’s predictable, it still shocks you because you can’t believe it actually happened that way.
