Book Review: Mafia Saints by Sloane Peterson

Mafia SaintsMafia Saints by Sloane Peterson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Undercover agent + Mafia princess = An amazing read! Christian is undercover for the FBI to build a case against one of the most powerful mafia families. Adelaide is a mafia princess who has earned her father’s trust to run the family. When Adelaide comes up with a plan to help her family, Christian is assigned by her father to help her with the numbers. What happens is far from crunching numbers! Christian is lying to Adelaide. There’s betrayal coming from all around. It all ends with an amazing conclusion to their story.

(I was excited to see that this was going to be the first in a series! I can’t wait to see what the rest of the series will be like).

Book Review: Nyx by Serena Akeroyd

Nyx (Dark and Dirty Sinners' MC, #1)Nyx by Serena Akeroyd
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Never judge a book based on reviews alone. I read the reviews for this book before I read the book. I feared I wouldn’t like it and would even want to not finish it. I am glad that I still gave it a try even after reading all that. I loved this story! Even the “dark” parts were better than I read in some reviews.

Nyx is the enforcer of the Satan’s Sinners MC. Giulia is the daughter of one of the MC members; she’s moving back with her brothers after her mother’s death. She sees a side of Nyx that no one else does. Giulia brings out a side of Nyx that he didn’t know was possible.

Were the parts about Nyx’s teen fantasies about Giulia’s mother weird? Yeah, kind of. But, they weren’t the main story in the book. I could overlook them. The betrayal in this story was well written and even I wanted to punish them for what they did.

This is a great start to an amazing MC series.

Book Review: Beyond the Team by Kaylee Ryan

Beyond the Team (Out of Reach #4)Beyond the Team by Kaylee Ryan
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Here we are… the final of the Out of Reach series. We finally get to read the final Monroe sister Peyton’s story. Peyton heads off on a spring break vacation with her sister Parker. Griffin is a college baseball player and a native of Florida. When Peyton and Griffin meet, they both find themselves falling for the other. But, they lead lives several states apart and both have dreams for the future.

This was probably my favorite of the four books. I loved Griffin and Peyton together. I love that they were willing to sacrifice a part of themselves for the other.

I am so glad that I found this series to read. I actually read it during the MLB lockout in 2022 so it filled the void that no baseball created (ironically when I finished this series, the lockout ended). Each story was just as sweet as the one before it. Each heroine was just as strong as the last. Each hero was perfect for each of the heroines.

Book Review: Beyond the Play by Kaylee Ryan

Beyond the Play (Out of Reach, #3)Beyond the Play by Kaylee Ryan
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the third book in the Out of Reach series. This story is all about Easton and Larissa’s daughter, Parker.

Enjoying a night out with friends, Parker meets Holden, the newest acquisition of the Blaze via trade. Parker knows all about Holden’s player ways, both on and off the field. Holden is smitten with Parker who doesn’t make it easy for Holden. She makes him pursue her and prove she’s more than just a fling for him. Holden discovers that Parker is baseball royalty but doesn’t care about her status; he just wants her. I loved Holden and Parker’s story. I was on Holden’s side but would’ve rang his neck myself if he had only been pursuing Parker for any reason besides forever.

I am completely loving this series. It’s the right amount of sweet and drama in each book. While each couple is faced with a conflict in their pursuit of Happily Ever After, it’s not over the top drama.

Book Review: Beyond the Game by Kaylee Ryan

Beyond the Game (Out of Reach, #2)Beyond the Game by Kaylee Ryan
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Beyond the Game is Book 2 in the Out of Reach series. I suggest reading the first book, Beyond the Bases, first.

Paisley, Larissa’s daughter in the first book, is back and all grown up. She is now a trainer for the Blaze, the very team her step-father-but-more-like-father played for. She’s excited to continue being around the sport she loved growing up. During one of the Blaze’s games she’s seated next to an attractive man, Cameron. When the kiss cam pans in on them, they do what any 2 people that just met do: They have an amazing first kiss in front of everyone. However, they never share any contact details.

Cameron is then called up to be first baseman for the Blaze and learns Paisley’s identity and that she is the trainer for his new team. There’s a lot of sweetness as Cameron tries to prove that he wants Paisley for who she is, not who her father is or to further his career. There’s misunderstandings that make you want to scream. But, this is the sweetest story and I am so glad that Paisley got her own story.

Book Review: Beyond the Bases by Kaylee Ryan

Beyond the Bases (Out of Reach #1)Beyond the Bases by Kaylee Ryan
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I love baseball. Like, baseball has always been a huge part of my life. So, when I see a baseball romance book? I’m all in!

This was so sweet and at times I even caught myself tearing up. Easton is a professional baseball player. One night he sees Larissa and is smitten; she tries to push him away. She says she can’t get involved because she has “complications”. Easton does everything he can to wear her down. He wants to prove he’s more than just an athlete and money. There are several epilogues from different points of view that share insight into the future. This was an amazing, sweet story.

Book Review: Deceive Me by Vi Carter

Deceive Me (Broken People Duet, #1)Deceive Me by Vi Carter
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I went back and forth on my star rating on this one. I even agonized over it. I was going to give it a 2 then decided to give it a 3. The ending, probably the last couple of pages, gave it a good 3.5 stars. The blurb sounded amazing which is why I wanted to read this book.

However, the story left me a little disappointed. Jared and Layla were both in the same foster home as kids. An incident led for Layla to be taken in by a nice, loving couple. She lost contact with Jared. Years later, they reconnected… sort of. Her past protector was no longer the sweet boy she remembered. The whole story left me… confused.

I never bought into Jared and Layla as a potential couple. The chemistry just wasn’t there for me. Because, quite honestly, after the way he treated her I wouldn’t want to be a couple with him.

Onto the last few pages… that was the best part of the whole book. It set up an amazing cliffhanger. I call it amazing because even though this book fell short in every other area, this one scene makes me need to read the next book just so I can see how it plays out.

Also, this is not a spicy read so if spice is what you are looking for you won’t find it here.

Book Review: Persuasion by T.K. Leigh

Persuasion (Temptation, #2)Persuasion by T.K. Leigh
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the second book in T.K. Leigh’s Temptation series. These books must be read in order. The main female character, Julia, is a side character from another series but that is not required to read before this series.

Temptation ended on a cliffhanger where Julia realized who her vacation boy toy really was. She also realized she had a connection to his recently deceased sister. Lachlan discovers who Julia is and that she also has a connection with his sister. Their “no names” agreement had suddenly changed. Their week of “no strings” fun is also coming to an end. The two must decide if they trust each other enough to work together to uncover the truth. And they both must decide if their no strings fun is over or is there enough to work on having a real relationship.

Then the cliffhanger ending… I thought nothing could be more shocking than the book 1 cliffhanger. But, no… T.K. hits me with this cliffhanger and I’m left needing the next book to try and get answers.

Book Review: Pillow Fight with the Decorator by Kameron Claire

Pillow Fight with the DecoratorPillow Fight with the Decorator by Kameron Claire
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a cute little story. It has insta lust which is appropriate for the length of the book. Casey is an interior decorator who is contacted by Katrina to take on furnishing her condo. Katrina is a headstrong woman who is successful and knows what she wants. The two get off on the wrong foot during their first meeting. Casey is not the typical guy a girl like Katrina would go for. Katrina appears to have some emotional baggage to work through. Can the two survive the professional relationship and possibly pursue something more?

** I was able to receive an extra epilogue by signing up for Kameron’s newsletter. That went a little further into the future from the book epilogue.

Kameron Claire is one of my favorites when it comes to short and well written books. I get the warm and fuzzy feeling from a good book even when I’m short on time.

Book Review: Flawless Prize by Roxy Sloane

Flawless PrizeFlawless Prize by Roxy Sloane
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the conclusion to Caleb and Juliet’s story. I would advise you not to read any further if you have not read the first two books in the series; there will be spoilers from this review for the storylines of the other books.

This book picks up where the second book ended, with Juliet driving Caleb’s car away after he admitted that he couldn’t trust her. This conclusion didn’t have the same spark for me as the other two books did. However, it is still a secret filled, action packed book. All the questions we have had throughout the trilogy will be answered. There will be twists that we don’t see coming. The person behind everything is predictable but the rest of the secrets make up for the predictability.

There will also be a new series about another character from this series. I can’t wait for that series to come out!
