Covered in Coal by Silla Webb
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
** I received a complimentary copy from the author in exchange for an honest review. **
This debut novel by Silla Webb knocked my socks off! I have been in a book hangover since I finished it. This book does have a cliff-hanger at the end to set up for the next book. And the cliff-hanger is a doozy…. I would’ve thrown my kindle across the room, but then what would I have to read book 2 on when its released?
Carly Jo Simon is the youngest daughter of the owner and CEO of Simon Energy Incorporated, a mining company in Kentucky. In the matter of 24 hours, her high school sweetheart dumped her, she found out she was pregnant, and her daddy turned his back on her. Desperate to make it on her own, she leaves town and starts over. Until her sister calls seven years later to say that their daddy was dying. Carly Jo learns that her father has left her in charge of his company.
Reluctantly, she returns back to her hometown to fulfill her daddy’s wishes. Enter Colton Weston, her high school boyfriend. Colton is desperate to make things right between him and Carly Jo. Carly Jo is keeping the secret of why she left town seven years ago from Colton. Colton is keeping the true reason he dumped her from Carly Jo. Both secrets rock the other’s world. Both must work through the other’s secret to see if what they had is worth saving now.
But, that’s not it. There’s this hot firefighter, Luke, that also wants Carly Jo’s attention. And apparently, Carly Jo’s daddy took some secrets to the grave with him but left clues behind. Carly Jo struggles with coping with her own secrets, Colton’s secrets, her Daddy’s secrets, and Luke.
This may seem like a lot, but I assure you, the story is perfect. Silla writes in true Kentuckian dialect which makes the story much more authentic. Just when I think everything is sorted out and things are going to work out, BAM! Storyline twist. And I was left with my mouth wide open in disbelief at the end.
I never would have guessed that this was Silla’s debut novel. She captivated me from the beginning and still has me captivated waiting for the next installment.
